A Pressing Need

Success often leads to new challenges, and Vita Nova's highest priority is to construct a new multi-purpose venue to better meet the needs of its present and future residents. Presently, Vita Nova has a formal classroom that is adequate for small groups, but too small for campus-wide workshops, presentations and award ceremonies. A larger space is needed which could also be used for other than training purposes. For example, the Vita Nova campus has no recreational space where young people can gather informally for cookouts, a game of basketball, or just hang-out in a safe environment.

The need to build community among the residents and staff of Vita Nova is vital for young people who have seldom experienced the joy of being wanted and the security of "belonging."Vita Nova proposes to design and construct a new venue that would serve two purposes: 1) to build community by bringing residents together for learning, recreation and socialization; and 2) increase the capacity of Vita Nova's outreach to current foster care youth.

Proposed Pavilion

The pavilion will be constructed with large treated timbers, and sport a raised-metal roof. Construction would be similar to pavilions located along Juno Beach. The proposed structure will be erected on a cement slab that will be extended beyond the roofline, to allow for a basketball half-court. The pavilion and grounds will be lighted, a BBQ grill installed, the entire site will be fenced-in and landscaped for security and privacy reasons. Under cover of the pavilion will be picnic tables and assorted outdoor furnishings that will help create a comfortable learning and recreational environment. The pavilion will be professionally designed to meet county and city codes. All construction will be permitted.
