Recently WPBF Channel 25 hosted “Mentor Night”, sponsored by The Mentor Center of Children Services Council of PB County. Local area mentors were invited along with their mentees for a night of pizza and fun. Several on-air personalities were there to greet all of the guests and to answer questions. After enjoying pizza and cookies together, all were given a behind-the-scenes private tour of the Channel 25 studios. If you’d like to learn more about becoming a mentor at Vita Nova, contact SULLY, Director of Mentors and Volunteers, at 561-434-5660 or Email to sully@renvill.org.

Channel 25 spotlights 2 Vita Nova Mentors

March 4th, 2009

January is National Mentor Month, and this year, WPBF Channel 25 featured two of Vita Nova’s residents and their mentors. Each Monday in January, Channel 25 featured a story of a local mentor/mentee match that is proving to be beneficial, not only to the mentee, but to the adult mentor as well.  Vita nova resident, Kateal C. (known to us as KC) along with his mentor Alan Frier were featured during the 5:30 pm newscast on January 5, followed by Vita Nova resident Tanya N. and her mentor Marie Clerger, featured on January 19.

Mentor “match” receives recognition…

October 27th, 2008

Tanya and marie share a moment...

Vita Nova resident, Tanya N.
recently had an opportunity to share her views on life
with her mentor, Marie Clerger.
January 2009 marks the 7th annual National Mentoring Month, which is sponsored by MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership and Harvard School of Public Health. One of the many highlights of this month long celebration is the selection of one outstanding “match” of a young adult, and their dedicated mentor.  This year, The Mentor Center of Childrens Services Council of Palm Beach County, along with WPBF, Channel 25 in West Palm Beach, has selected one of Vita Nova’s many successful matches.  In this, our very first year of our mentor program, to even be considered for this award is such an honor, let alone to be selected as one of four recipients.  Our “match” is made up of Vita Nova resident, Tanya N., age 18, and her adult Mentor, Marie Clerger, a married mother of 5 children, who works full time as Clerk and Comptroller for the Palm Beach County Courthouse.  Marie and Tanya have been matched since May 2008, and have developed a strong and fruitful bond.  Tanya, who is of Haitian descent, has never visited Haiti but has longed to do so for most of her life.  Marie, who visits her nativeland Haiti twice per year to perform mission work, will make another trip this December with her own 5 children.  The significant difference this year is the additional pair of hands that Marie will have with her to serve others…  Tanya will make her maiden voyage to Haiti with her new “family” and promises to have lots to share with us upon her return.  If you’d like more information about becoming a Mentor at Vita Nova, and making a difference in the life of one of our young adults, please contact SULLY,  our Director of Mentors & Volunteers at sully@renvill.org
